Bad Session

Ok, I really need a total re-focus on the mental side. I played a session last night, and right from the off I was really tired and light headed. I really needed to sleep first, but of course I played 'cos I needed to put in more hands and I had plans for later.

I think I need to stop having plans for later, either that, or stop doing stuff during the day that isn't playing poker/ sleeping/ thinking about poker.

So anyway, despite being totally knackered, despite the screen swimming in front of me, I played and lost a load. For some reason, I convinced myself that I'm still +EV in that state. Blatently, I'm not.

Signs are going up reminding myself what an idiot it makes me playing in that condition. It has to be the number 1 goal in any session that I start the session feeling fully awake and concentrated.

Is all.

Session 2 Analysis

$928 won, which I'm most happy about given I didn't win any stacks and only one win > $200.

This guy is a nit, like a super nit, at least from PF. Do I have to check fold? I guess so.

I was really happy with virtually all my session goals. Honestly, I think the ability to recognise dangerous spots early is absolutely vital.

Looking at my non-sd filter though, a couple that I'm not happy with. I just shouldn't be losing > 25 bbs without showdown, ever! At least without a sizemic board change.

Here's why I hate 4bet bluffing, and just much prefer having a wide 4bet value range OOP. At some point I'll have to do the maths comparing 4bet bluffing with 4bet calling 99-66, but my suspicion at least is that the latter is very superior in a lot of cases.

I just needed a much better plan on the flop, calling flop and then folding is criminal- I should have either just folded or had a much better idea of his tendencies allowing me to bluff him with last initiative at some point. I saw the ace as a golden card to shove, but if he's spaz potting KK or whatever then I really should just wait for a better spot.

These hands meant that my red line only scraped into profit.

So, 2 sessions down. 1 winning, 1 losing. My goals for session 3 are the same as before.

dan

Session 1 Review

Skyward red line (commitment threshold)- 9
Nits not ever rewarded- 6- more like don't reward the fish was the problem
In general, just being more aware of reg 'animal types' and what this means - 3
No PF spew - 8
Not too many ridiculous call downs to affect the above - 9
Some creative play in there - 8

I lost $279 this session, which puts paid to winning all 10! I'll just have to win the next 9.

Just to talk about the commitment threshold stuff, it's basically saying that after X % of effective stacks has gone into the pot, then I'm never looking to fold. This X number is much much lower than you might think, and means that I have to make very early commitment decisions, either to run a multi street bluff or to call down with my hand.

No-one told Tempe though.

Now, with the above, obviously the flop call is standardly a raise. However, with him betting so small I feel like he's basically challenging any nutted hand to raise (given stacks and the flush draw and the straight draw) there and then. If no raise goes in, then he feels good to go with whatever hand he has and/ or barrel me off it. So, I call to 'remove' from my range hands like sets/ two pair etc. Importantly too, we can still get stacks in given it's 3way and he can go bet bet bet and I call call shove.

His shove is iffy obviously, maybe thought I'd bet fold 2 pair. Hmm.

I lost around $1700 this session in failed bluffs. I'm less sad though in my decisions to bluff the rivers (all rivers) than I am allowing the pot to get so big that I was forced to bluff.

Now, my problem here is just not having a concrete read on the guy. Turns out to be quite fishy. And, without a read, I should just check the turn and maybe pick off a bluff on the river. As it were, I thought 'no reg is ever bet calling 2nd pair here, nutted hands 3bet this flop', so went for a bet/ jam. Ce la vie.

Some bluffs did work though, I'll post 4 here without results, of which some worked and others didn't.
