Session 2 Review

I guess this blog will be more interesting if I post some hands without results to get some comments, then I'll give my analysis and results. First some relevant history:

Then this hand comes up: villain is 28/15/10 over only 70 hands. Is a loser on ptr over a smallish sample, and I don't recognise him so I'm assuming somewhat fishy.

Villain here is 27/25. 8% sqz from bb over 2k hands, 16% raw BB 3bet. Cbets 77% in 3bet pots. Given we can't improve, I feel flop is certainly one of bet fold or bet call. How are we adjusting his 8% sqz range based on the situation? What do we make of his lack of cbet?

Small pot. In this hand villain stabs flats 13%, and stabs 54%. The stab number needs contextualising based on us being 4way. I have a ton of reads on him, but none particularly relevant to this spot. He is capable of barreling etc. How foldable or callable is this ?

Session Review

Reasonably happy. Towards the end I lost 100bbs twice in quick succession, and although there was 15 minutes left on the clock, and I wasn't at the stoploss (therefore leaving me some wiggleroom to continue the session) I made a good decision to snap quit. I was rewarded by immediately winning 100bbs back in a cooler spot.

I went over the big hands in detail with Chris at the end so I won't repeat the analysis. I'll do quick cliffs tho:

Remarkably in the above hand, if we stove a range of TT, QJs (about the only flush possible) and AK I have 32% and odds to call this shove. Throw in 2 combos of worse or bluff and it's clearly profitable. One for the cooler bank.

This hand is much more controversial than I initially thought. Arlord is a crazy fish on a medium term heater. I'm happy with my assumptions on his 3betting range and flop shoving range (read, basically any piece of this board or draw) and obviously nutted hands and assumed it's comfortably ok. Actually I only have 32%, and need closer to 43%. With AT I'm a favourite, with QT it's bad, and KT is around breakeven depending on assumptions.

Threw in this hand just to illustrate an adjustment to be made. Villain cbets 100% ip 41/41. Therefore cbets all air and all pieces of this board (extremely depolarised). There are various adjustments to depolarised cbettors; we should apply lots of pressure over multiple streets for example. With value here on the turn, I do something I hardly ever do and lead after a flop cc.

1.38am, going to play another session now and I'll review the big hands here.

Coasting To Oblivion

You live and you learn. If the saying that 'you learn from your mistakes' is true, then I have learned a hell of a lot these past few 3 days!

Really happy with last month. The technical aspects, the approach, the professionalism. When successful I basically have a set of 'rules'. These rules are not technical aspects of the game any more, I've moved on from that and don't think they are beneficial, but rather rules for the intangible aspects. Things like a 2BI stoploss, no session over an hour, quit as soon as I'm not feeling it, etc.

At times in October I bent these rules slightly. I don't want to be completely constrained at times when I'm doing very well. So, for example, when I'm $600 up after an hour and I'm on a few Jesus seats, I've extended the session to two hours.

I think all of the above rules are slightly flexible, so long as at the time of choosing to bend them I am winning both in the current session and the past few days.

What is definitely not ok is to start carrying this bendiness over to losing weeks, days and sessions. And doing so is directly responsible for me dropping a ton the past 4 days. I started playing some HU, played too long, have been tired and carried on, etc etc.

Kinda furious at myself, but also kinda certain that during the next 28 days of this month my graph is going to rocket. No excuses, no bending the rules. No session over an hour regardless of current result and gamestate. Strict 2 BI stoploss. 6max only. First few sessions to have comprehensive review of the hands here.

October Is Banked

I did good this month. Messed up on the last day a little as I always used to, but all in all my new style of playing has been a complete revelation to me and I'm super pumped for the next new months to get rich again. (my definition of rich = ringing Sky to upgrade to ESPN without freaking out about the extra £11 per month this is going to set me back).

I threw the whole month in there, although I only started my 4 tabling adventures on the 4th and prior to that was stuck a couple of k. Running good at 1-2 Euro is nice, running bad at 2-4 Euro is not.

I've got too many interesting hands to post really. What I'll do from now on is post em as they happen while the thinking is still fresh.

So I'll just throw in a bad beat instead. The one that led to a mini meltdown yesterday. 400nl is tough right now, it's basically rammed with former high stakes players. I don't think they're better or anything but it does make things interesting. This one vs Aejones seems so unfair, he just doesn't NEED the money ! He actually cold 4bet called off JJ vs my AA too in a spot which seemed super light to me, but I guess his perception of me is stuck in 2009.

Plan for this month is probably to start slow at 200nl again and build some momentum, then hopefully hit 400nl around the 10th. If anyone wants to send me any hands over skype any time I'm more than happy to answer and talk about em. bye
