6 Hands, Some Basic Questions, And Session Review

Hands: 395
Net: -$547

While the cards could've been kinder in spots, this session served as a brutal reminder of my failings in certain spots, namely, spots where the fold button seems to shrink before my eyes while the other two grow in stature.

I'll start with some basic basic spots:

$2/$4 No Limit Holdem • 5 Players

Generated by weaktight.com.

UTGDOM92222$178.20
CORE_MOGUL$471.80
BTNSHAGGYCHIPS$428.50
SBHero$400
BBCOLDISLAND$1,229.60
  • Pre-Flop ($6, 5 players)Hero is SB
  • sK sQ
2 folds, SHAGGYCHIPS raises to $12, Hero calls $10, 1 fold
  • Flop ($28, 2 players)
  • hT c9 cT
Hero checks, SHAGGYCHIPS checks
  • Turn ($28, 2 players)
  • d4
Hero bets $22, SHAGGYCHIPS calls $22
  • River ($72, 2 players)
  • c8
  • Final Pot: $72

So, I could've and probably should've 3bet this PF. However, I'm starting to lean towards check raising these types of hands where I flop overcards + backdoors etc, as that's not currently not really part of my game and perhaps it could be.

Anyway, once villain checks, he's got some weak pair or ace high. Are we even bothering with fighting for this pot? It looks so donkish to lead turn and river and get called by A9..........

So, while on the subject on check raising, I do another one here:

  • d7 hJ cK
JOETFK checks
  • Final Pot: $28

Here's a basic cbet spot, or is it? SB vs BTN he has a ton of broadways, and given my lack of equity when called there's not many or any cards I can barrel.......?

Next hand, do we flat this to the nit? Do we bet the turn?

Standard squeeze get in?

Last hand, villain transparently has a weak ace or KK etc, and I make a flop decision to triple barrel him off it. I can have QJ and assorted other nutted hands, though that river is perhaps bad for me in the sense I shouldn't have a 7 and he'd perceive I'd shut down without one etc. Please tell me just to check fold the turn, thankyou.

Hand 1 deinitely 3betting. Bet river $60 as played. Fuck looking like a donk, who cares. Betting the river is profitable. Turn is semi questionable as you have a tiny bit of showdown value and he is defined as pot controlling something, but if by betting the turn you can bet a bunch of rivers getting him to fold Ace high and a bunch of small pairs then it is good. That is if you know you can get him to fold those hands. Some guys check back the flop and never fold the turn or river so alas it's a bad bluff spot versus them.

Hand 2: It's 100bb and stack to pot ratio is a little shallower than normal. I really don't like your cr size. Turn bet sizing is going to be really awkward when you pick up more outs. If you are going to cr make it 75ish so that you can make your double a nicer smaller bet size like 90/100 when you whiff, whilst losing the least when he jams over the check raise. Other options inc leading. I think it's an ok spot to lead to take it down with so many double barreling cards. Alternatively c/c with 2 overs, 2 back door draws and some showdown value is also fine. You can check raise the turn if you pick up equity and sometimes he just checks the turn and gives up the river. Plus he will bluff at an Ace on the turn or river.

Hand 3: Again 3bet v carrotsnake usually. This is fine if say you think carrot will flat and you can bluff a ton of turn cards. The problem v carrotsnake specific is that he is actually intelligent and knows that nearly every card in the deck on the turn is bad for him. There's not a chance in hell he flats the flop with a value hand and i expect him to click it back 3bet a ton on this board as a bluff knowing it's getting check raised by so many gut shots and oesd + bluffs & maybe even weak flush draws that are folding. so we are relying on raw fold equity v him and so I don't love it.

Hand 4: Prob check, since he is calling AT/AQ which beat you too and you only really fold out 22 - 66 and you give yourself some free cards versus those + you can bluff a Q or T to get him to fold those + 7x and 88.

Hand 5: You didn't define nit. We are flatting to break him and bluff him on some boards. Like if we hit tp we aren't looking to felt him, but we flat to try and break his nutted hands. We need some playback range v him. I don't think i'd go much lower that T9s

Hand 6: Somewhat standard. However, i've been looking at these spots more closely in terms of bet sizing and balance from villains perspective. A lot of guys are very transparent with bet sizing and play bluff hands and value hands in a totally different manner. Take a mental note of this for me and see if you notice anything in future. I know nothing about cold island, but I know by his bet sizing he is not folding and thus his hand should at worst be 88 - AQ and for a lot of people JJ - AK. Against 88 - AQ you have 47% equity and thus with the dead money it's an easy call more so if he would ever commit like this with 77 and lower or AJ/KQs. Against guys who play JJ+, AK you are crushed.

Hand 7: I'd bet 195 on the river if this was my plan. 206 is such a weird bet size. So is 81 on the turn actually. Why do you use weird bet sizing. Be normal. Anyway wtf are you flatting 34dd for? Wise up.

This took me ages. So im not proof reading it. Enjoy all my mistypes.
