Rehab

I disappeared after that $8.5k losing day, 9-12 tabling. I was feeling pretty ashamed of myself, and wanted to sulk/ fix it in private before blogging publically about it again. Yesterday, I again peaked for the month, so I guess that means I'm out of rehab.

I can't 12 table, 9 table, or even 6 table. If only I could filter lifetime results for number of tables in HEM I could show you the proof in the pudding, but basically it's something like 4 tables- 8ptbb winner, 6 tables- 1ptbb winner, 9-12 tables- 45ptbb loser.

Since that day, I've been super hot on only playing when my mind's right. What that's made me realise is that my mind is only good for the first 3-4 hours of waking time, after that it's mush. I really have to put this down to physical fitness and my vegetarian diet for the last 4 months or so, so today I went and bought some:

.

Hopefully that helps and means I can play more hours per day, but at the minute I'm happy with the strength of my willpower stopping me from playing more.

What I've found is that when I'm concentrating tons I tend to play nittier PF, but far far more aggro post. I've been jamming tons of turns and rivers. Some hands:

Overall a disappointing month in terms of raw results, but I feel that the $8.5k day was a real turning point/ waking up moment for me and I'm confident of doing well in the last few days and hitting the ground running on the way to a stupendous March.........

I am hereby

Revoking the $1k prop bet to catch me on FT, 'cos no AP games are running, so no claims please. Plus if I win I can actually ship Chris his $7k back.

GG Month

Erm.

So, 9 tabling's not for me then.

Thursday 11 February 2010

Session 23

Hands: 501
Net: $1323

I've allowed a huge leak to creep into my game. It's kind of crept in there because I've been running well, but anyway: I keep making the most outrageous shoves/ calls PF. Literally the number of times I'm getting 22-66 in now is just insane, and I need to stop it. This session, I was up $300 and cruising, then shoved (in this order) 22/66/55/10. 22 I got a fold off LrdOfDarkness, all the others I got called by dominating overpairs.

If I'm going to 9 table, I just don't need to do this. I've previously kinda worried along the lines of 'I get paid cos my image is so bad, if I dont spew occasionally my image will heal'. Sounds daft, but it's really important to the way I think about poker. I need to realise though that my image isn't going to just heal itself overnight, and in the meantime I must be literally giving away a BI every 1000 hands or so in terms of EV simply by not being more solid PF.

Thus, this next session I'm going to 9 table and really concentrate on not giving anything away PF at all. All the other stuff I concentrated on has really improved, and I haven't got involved in any horrible RE spots in the last few weeks, for example. It may take a few sessions, but I think I'm going to do much much better removing this leak from my game.

Session 24 coming up...........

Session 22

Hands: 3351
Net: $1948

Predicatably, my short and variance free session instead descended into a 7 hour swingathon, being 1.5k up, 3k down, then I finally quit once the pendulum swung the other way.

I was 9 tabling the last 3 hours or so, and really liked it. Meant I could play slighter fewer hands, make slightly fewer moves, and play on my image a little bit.

Too many hands to discuss probably, but here's one just to re-iterate my hatred of Boro. Here I get 'owned' again, and it's doubly annoying when it happens through an SH58 line:

Too thin on the river? I guess knowing he folds everything, it maybe is.

I was talking with Martin today about floating these boards in 3bet pots and how effective it is, but I dislike how I played this. I certainly don't hate the initial float, he'd be suicidal to continue betting on this board once I flat the flop, but what I hate is my betsize. It's going to be obvious to a decent midstaker that I'm floating this at least sometimes, but where I went wrong was in my betsizing.

Basically, I bet too big, meaning that if he shoves AJ etc and is wrong it is much less of a mistake than if I had bet say 1/3 pot. This is just a spot where betting smaller actually exerts far more pressure than a larger bet, whilst obviously saving me money the times he's shoving anything anyway. This is my belief anyway, comments welcome.

Session 22 coming up, I've a mild headache, and plan to take a low variance approach, if that's even possible playing 33/27...........
