Session 14- and Re-evaluation

Hands: 492
Net: $827

Not overly pleased with the session actually, I did some stupid things, and coolered/ sucked out on Tokuan a few times.

VS this villain, with our pretty insane history (and I perceive he's not the type to view history as a reason to make less bluffs), I think that c-call turn and river > bet both. Situationally of course it wouldn't have mattered, but I think he bets twice semi thinly with any ace, and bets at least once probably twice with random broadway floats.

Then, I get a 'strong' draw in on the flop, with marginal FE but doesn't matter. This is fine IMO.

Then this hand, minus results. I don't know if he bets AQ/AK etc on this board, I just don't, so don't know if that makes the initial float bad without stronger reads. Maybe.

Finally in terms of this session, I want to talk about Borovich. He is literally the ONLY reg on UB where I feel completely owned every time we play a hand. So, I know he floats a ton, so, cbet less? Double barrel more? The thing is he's often going to have a range on the flop that includes hands that call twice/ call once/ call three. I don't know which of those his range falls into and I make so many mistakes.

I get away with this one:

So, if there's one thing that I maybe pin as a weakness, it's that I've never seen him make an outrageous hero call. Like, the type that Hankdahtank and Stainless and LrdofDarkness and I would make. In the above hand, I'm pretty sure any of the above look me up with JT, but maybe not Boro. But, I'm not about to just say "oh well I'll just shove loads of rivers".

Also, as well as floating a lot he raises tons of flops. I've had nil success in calling him down 2 streets or 3 in any spot. I've had zero success bluff 3betting the flop, no matter what the board texture. He puts me in spots with TP3K so often deep, raising flop IP, betting turn big, etc. This next hand was literally the worst time to call down ever, I was so sick of it this session that gameflow wise my call down is total junk, he's too good to be bluffing there again.

So, how to play VS him? Well, OOP, I'm going to not be cbetting without very good equity a lot of the time. Also OOP, with say weak top pair, I'm going to give c-calling a try 'shut out the move maker'. Oh I forgot I get owned PF as well. Many times I've caught him 3betting 95s etc OTB. So, 4bet him right? It sounds completely ridiculous, but I've never had any success whatsoever. I think I'm basically getting owned in gameflow, as in I tend to 4bet the second time he 3bets. For me, this session, I'm going to 4bet the first time, and the second (like, I think trying to pin his level is where it's at. I *think*, if he percives me as semi decent, that he wouldn't expect me to 4bet bluff twice in a row). So, reverse logic VS him is king, possibly.

In overall terms, I've been playing well, super aggressive and confident at the moment. But, it always takes a big fall in these spots to force me to go mad at myself, beat myself up about not concentrating, post a huge re-evaluation piece in this blog etc. So, I'm trying to have that attitude that normally comes post-$4k loss, but have it today, before any such loss.

Session 15, coming up. I'll post Boro hands especially. Man I hate him.

Cbetting a more polarised range will definitely help with getting raised and floated.

For floating check some nuts hands to him on the turn to make use of his floats either check call if he bets twice or check raise if you think he might rebluff.

In regards to 4betting, you haven't specifically said what's going on? Are you 4betting 100bb and he is jamming or 200bb and he is 5betting?

-4bet hands with blockers to getting shoved on that you can't call with such as Axo.
-4bet lighter for value.
-Tighten up in late positions when he is on the button.

After you make these adjustments, stop trying to outplay him. Accept that he is a solid player and that you won't make much money from him. Either that or pretend he was running hot, which he may have been!

There must be an element of running hot, either that or he's 6 levels above the next best reg IMO! He's not playing today, good.
